On July 9, 2023, the Antietam Middle/Senior High School suffered nearly $22,000,000 worth of damage due to the flooding of Antietam Creek. The flood caused irrevocable destruction to the school, making it unusable. Currently, the 7th-12th grade students of Antietam are utilizing the district's Elementary School, Primary Center, as well as a nearby church for all learning. Because the school district is so small, and with limited resources, the path forward is unclear.
Antietam parents want to bring awareness to this continued struggle to "get back to normal". Currently, local leaders like the Borough of Mt. Penn, Lower Alsace Township and the Antietam School District are still in private "discussions" on how to move forward. We want our community leadership to come together, get our students back into their own school buildings and put processes in place to minimize disruption to the residents surrounding the district buildings.
Please consider donating to Antietam Flood Relief's GoFundMe, created by seniors from Antietam High School. These students are trying to spread awareness and raise money through their website and documentary to help in any way they can.
